_ Our Story
Rooted in
Soil & Soul
Every flower that blooms at Black Dog Flower Co. carries with it a story—of healing, discovery, and the quiet joy of watching something grow.
Black Dog Flower Co. grew from a deeply personal journey of healing, finding joy in creativity, and a deep connection to the land. Founder Dana Hicks, a former social studies teacher turned farmer-florist, discovered the magic of growing flowers during a season of personal challenge. Her desire to find joy through flowers has transformed into a flourishing business rooted in sustainable farming, education, and design excellence.

Dana brings a unique blend of artistry and science to her work, blending design expertise with a deep knowledge of plants, soil health, and sustainable farming practices. Her deep appreciation for nature has always influenced her design style and way of seeing the world. Alongside her beloved black dogs, Winnie and Arnold, she tends to the land with care and joy.
_The Namesake
WINNIE
Winnie, our original black dog, runs the show! She bosses all of us all around, loves being in the gardens and sitting in the dirt near us, picking and eating beans, and basking in the sun. She genuinely loves everyone she meets. Winnie’s preferred activity is napping in the sand at the beach, but long walks around the meadows are next best. We are so lucky to have spent all these wonderful years with our very good and sweet girl.
ARNOLD
Arnold, aka, Arnie Man is the personality hire! This very handsome guy’s got more energy than he knows what to do with, keeps all the critters away from the gardens, and steals cucumbers like it’s his job. For Arn, ball is life, closely followed by food and his people. If you stop by and leave your car door open, he’ll jump in and search for snacks. He’s a handful, but has become the best farm dog and sweet garden companion.
